Morriston ED is a busy department seeing 85,000 patients per year. We have 9 resus spaces ( 5 blue, 4 red including a negative pressure room), 14 Majors trolley spaces, 6 ambulatory majors spaces, and a separate Paediatric area (CEU) with 11 trolley spaces. We have a co-located MIU run by the ENPs within the footprint of ED. There is an AEC (Ambulatory Emergency Care unit run by the medics), and an UPCC (Urgent Primary Care Centre run by the GPs) within the hospital to where our triage nurses can stream appropriate patients. The OPAS (Older Persons Assessment Service) team comprising COTE consultant, ANPs, physios and OTs work with us in the ED to reduce emergency admissions Monday to Friday 7-5.
Consultant cover in ED is from 8:30 to midnight every day, and we are continuing to expand our PEM consultant cover similarly.
