Quality Improvement

Overview

Trainees are expected to get involved in Quality Improvement (QI) throughout training.

QI is no longer a separate assessment but now will be assessed via a ‘spiral curriculum’.

The RCEM 2021 curriculum key capabilities for each training stage are:

ACCS – contribute effectively to a departmental QI project

Intermediate – show an understanding of QI methods and reflect on a QI Project

HST – provide clinical leadership on effective QI, support and develop a culture of departmental safety and good clinical governance

QI Curriculum from August 2021

Trainees are assessed throughout training in a ‘spiral curriculum’

To evidence their participation in QI activity, trainees must complete a QI Assessment tool (QIAT) each year.

The QIAT must be signed off by the Educational Supervisor and uploaded to the eportfolio prior to ARCP

AWSEM and HEIW have arranged training days to help deliver the QI curriculum
