Quality Improvement

Overview

Trainees are expected to get involved in Quality Improvement activities starting from ST1.

Assessment will be in the form of a spiral curriculum.

This includes demonstrating an understanding of QI methodology and gaining a breadth of experience as you progresses through training (ST1 – ST6).

The RCEM 2021 curriculum key capabilities for each training stage are:

ACCS – contribute effectively to a departmental QI project

Intermediate – show an understanding of QI methods and reflect on a QI Project

HST – provide clinical leadership on effective QI, support and develop a culture of departmental safety and good clinical governance.

Trainees are assessed throughout training in a ‘spiral curriculum’

To evidence their participation in QI activity, trainees must complete a QI Assessment tool (QIAT) each year.

The QIAT must be signed off by the Educational Supervisor and uploaded to the eportfolio prior to ARCP

AWSEM and HEIW have arranged training days to help deliver the QI curriculum.

‘Foundation in Improvement (formerly called Bronze IQT)’ can be found here – it is an online module (for ST1s)
