The Princess of Wales hospital is a friendly DGH with a welcoming Emergency Department. The ED has a 3 resus beds, 6 HDU beds, 10 majors beds and a 4 bed ‘COVID’ bay. We also have a minor injury area run by our experienced ENP’s. We encourage all our doctors to spend time in the minor injuries area during their time here to ensure they gain adequate minor injury exposure.
We have a weekly teaching timetable for all members of the ED team, with simulation sessions every Wednesday morning. We encourage you to get involved in the teaching program so we can help you develop your teaching skills! You will be invited to complete an audit or QIP during your time with us and will be able to present it at our quarterly audit meeting.
We like to support all our doctors working in the ED, ensuring that we comply with AWSEM rota recommendations to promote wellbeing and reduce the risk of burnout amongst our doctors. We promote a caring supportive environment for our doctors to work in, giving them the respect they deserve for providing the excellent levels of emergency care that we strive for. We have signed up to the EMTA Rest and Rota Charter.
